HEAD INJURIES / Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI)

Head injuries and related brain injuries are very common and can cause a range of problems.
You may already be aware that you or a loved one has a head injury:
  • Auto Accidents
  • Falls
  • Football Concussions
  • Combat Injuries
  • Alzheimer's / Parkinson's / Dementia
Mild head injuries are often undiagnosed and can mimic many other problems: School problems and learning disabilities including reading, spelling, writing, and math
  • Focus, Behavior, and Obsession Problems
  • Eye-hand Coordination Problems
  • Balance and Coordination Problems
  • Irritation, Depression, and Aggressive Outbursts
  • Seizures
  • Headaches
  • Memory Problems
  • Addiction to unhealthy substances
Mild head injuries can be caused by so many seemingly unremarkable incidents:
  • Banging your head on a kitchen cabinet
  • A child falling in a crib or on the playground
  • Sports injuries including bangs, falls, and even stray balls
In the past, mild head injuries were very difficult to diagnose and treatment options for head injuries were extremely limited.
Today, many new therapies have been developed to help to diagnose mild head injuries and to rebuild the brain after a head injury.
TREATING HEAD INJURIES
Dr. Eric Shearer now offers a multifaceted program to diagnose and to help to resolve and treat head and brain injuries:
Cranial Manipulation
There are 26 bones in the skull which expand and contract as you breathe. If one or more of those bones becomes misaligned or "locked" from even the slightest bump to
the head, head injury symptoms are often the result. Dr. Shearer has been trained to identify misalignments and to manipulate cranial bones so that are correctly aligned. Often the realignment of the cranial bones will significantly reduce or eliminate head injury symptoms.
Laser Brain Stimulation
After concussive injuries, the brain is often swollen and bruised. Dr. Shearer uses the Theralase laser to increase the blood flow to areas of the brain which have been injured by a blow to the head. The laser is programmed to target specific areas of the brain. Often the increased blood flow to a damaged area of the brain will help the damaged brain tissue to heal.
Brain Nutrition
Dr. Shearer uses the Brain span / Micro nutrition testing system to diagnose chemical irregularities in a patient's brain. Brain chemicals are analyzed based on testing a drop of the patient's blood combined with the results of an on-line brain function test. The multi-part test reveals details about nutritional deficiencies in the patient's brain. Based on the results of the test, Dr. Shearer will make diet and nutrition recommendations to improve the patient's brain function.
Oxygen Therapy
Dr. Shearer has an in-office hyperbaric oxygen chamber which provides pressurized oxygen treatments. Hyperbaric oxygen treatments can often contribute to healing damaged brain tissue.
HEAD INJURY CONSULTATION AND TREATMENT
If you or your loved one has a diagnosed head injury, Dr. Shearer is pleased to work with patients to develop a treatment plan to help to resolve head injury problems.
If a head injury has not been formally diagnosed but the patient is showing possible head injury symptoms, Dr. Shearer is pleased to do an evaluation to determine if there is an undiagnosed head injury that could be helped with head injury treatment.
